If we could do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted, we would not need God. If we could do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted, we would be God. But we can’t and we’re not. We need God. We also need patience, which is a fruit of the Spirit.
Be sure to get patience, because you are going to need it. Important things in this life take time. It takes time to build something, to repair something, to recover from something. There are only so many shortcuts, no matter how clever you are. Submit to the reality that things are as they are, not as you might wish them to be. Get some patience.
Patience is the produce of humility. Humility comes from an accurate understanding of our relationship with God and with other people. We can’t demand that God respond to us according to our timetable. We can’t insist that our needs and desires take priority over those of other people. Out of humility, we learn patience.
Patience is depends on our understanding of the character of God. We learn to wait because we trust God. We learn to wait because the word of God is reliable. God won’t forget about us. We can wait, because we know the One we are waiting for. In our waiting, we learn patience. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit.
