“Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
-Hebrews 4:16
We prefer to fix our own problems, when we can. However, sometimes we need a little help. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we need a wisdom and strength beyond our own. Those are good times to call upon Jesus. The Bible says that Jesus wants to help us and that he can help us.
Jesus wants to help us because he knows what it’s like. He was like us in every respect, except without sin. He wasn’t just pretending to be human. He really was human.
Jesus can help us because he has access to God. As the Letter to the Hebrews says, he is our high priest. He has passed through the heavens. He intercedes with God on our behalf. As the ancients said, “He was as we are, and therefore he will help; he was not as we are, and therefore he can.”
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about grace in our time of need, and the throne of grace.
