Jesus said to his disciples, ” I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.” What does it mean to have Jesus as a friend?
First, it means that Jesus is a good friend, but he is unlike any other friend. Only Jesus died for your sins. Only Jesus gives you commands to obey. Only Jesus gives you access to God. Jesus is a good friend, but he is unlike any other friend.
Second, it means Jesus reveals to us God’s plan. This is what we mean when we say access. Jesus teaches us truth. Jesus teaches us the way the universe works. Jesus teaches us the way this life works. He lets us know God’s plan.
Third, Jesus is the friend we can trust. Nothing causes more pain than a friend who betrays you. Jesus, you can trust. You can trust that he will accept you, and give you the best life possible, and even open the way to eternal life. He is the friend you can trust.
In our sermon this Sunday we will talk about Jesus, the friend who walks with you.
