Jesus redefines leadership. He shows us that leadership is service. Leadership is taking responsibility for the mission of an organization, for everyone in the organization, and for the community where the organization is located.
Jesus himself is the example of leadership. He intends that his followers would imitate him. Jesus own model of service was taking up his cross and giving his life. In all likelihood, what will be required of his followers is something less drastic. More likely, they will be called upon to help without receiving status or honor or credit.
Jesus serves us. He is our example, but he is more than an example. He does for us what we could not do for ourselves. He gave his life to cleanse us of our sins and make us righteous before God. Grace precedes response. Before we were called to be like Jesus, Jesus became like us for the sake of our salvation.
