Great dads teach their children to pray. Great dads want their children to succeed in life and teach their children what they need to know. Great dads teach their children how to handle money, so they don’t go broke. They teach them how to change a tire, so they don’t wind up stranded in the middle of nowhere. They teach them how to pray, so they can handle the challenges of this life.
There are many ways to teach about prayer, but the best way is to model it. Jesus talked a lot about prayer, but the most important lesson he gave was his own example. Dads are most effective in teaching their children to pray when they themselves pray. Children want to please their father. Children want to be like their father. A dad may need to develop his own prayer routine in order the bless his children with their own habit of prayer.
Jesus taught his disciples that they should be persistent in prayer. Persistence in prayer means praying until God answers the prayer request. Persistence in prayer also means praying one’s whole life long. Dads want to equip their children to succeed even after they are gone. Dads want to train their children to make prayer a lifelong habit.
In our sermon this Sunday we will wrap up our sermon series, “How to Be a Great Dad” with the message, “Teaching Your Children to Pray.”
