You know what it is like when you lose something like your phone or your keys, and the satisfaction that comes with finding them again? That’s what salvation is like. Salvation is being found.
The Bible tells us that Jesus seeks us and saves us. He is the image of the invisible God, the One who says through the prophet Ezekiel, “I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak.” The entire history of the relationship of God and humanity is like a soap opera, an endless pattern of idolatry and reconciliation, of breaking up and making up. Here’s the thing: who is the one who initiates the makeup each time? It is always God. God reaches out to us. God looks for us. Salvation is being found.
Let’s make it personal. Are you lost? Are you far from God? Are you going through the motions but sense that something is missing? Maybe Jesus is looking for you right now. Maybe Jesus is going to pay you a visit soon and listen while you tell him how you are going to start living the life God meant for you. Maybe Jesus will find you today.
In our sermon this Sunday, we are going to look at the Bible story of Zacchaeus and talk about how salvation is being found.
