We want to be deep people, spiritual people. We go farther on our spiritual journey if we travel in the company of like-minded believers.
We need other believers to help us on our individual spiritual journey. Our prayers are more powerful, our Bible study is richer, our worship is more inspiring when we do it within the fellowship of the Christian community.
Even so, our faith community is more than an instrument for our personal pilgrimages. Our participation in the faith community is our spiritual journey. It is as we develop the capacity to have healthy, mature relationships that we grow closer to God.
William Barclay wrote, “No man can walk in disunity with his fellow man and in unity with Christ. A man’s relationships with his fellow man are a good indication of his relationship with Christ.” This Sunday in our sermon we will explore how we grow deeper together.
